Yu Yu Hakusho

Netflix's j-drama Yu Yu Hakusho was so much fun! Yusuke, a young delinquent, dies while saving a little boy. Koenma brings him back to life as a spirit detective.

I was such a big fan of the anime way back and Netflix definitely didn't disappoint with this adaptation. I think it works well for both fans and new viewers. The only thing is that there are only 5 episodes, so I hope it'll be successful and we'll get more, especially considering that the next arcs are even better.

Koenma is played by Machida Keita (Kurosawa in Cherry Magic). <3 Botan is very cool too. And my beloved Kurama gets to be super pretty under his Yoko Kurama appearance.

In the first episode, you can hear a little bit of the original anime opening. All the feels!

Oh, that sounds good. And I loved Machida Keita in Cherry Magic. And it's short, which is exactly what I like to watch these days. :) Just one question - is it very angsty in your opinion? I just want to be prepared in case I'll decide to give it a try.

No, it's not really angsty. It's a fighting anime with a World of the Dead. Think Dragon Ball Z, except with A LOT more insults and "I don't take orders from anyone." XDDD

We watched the first episode last night and enjoyed it.

MG couldn't really deal with Enma having a dummy in his mouth and I explained about the original character design but he still says they could have dropped it for the live action version. I would agree with MG except I know how touchy fans can get about changing a character's appearance. ;D

Someone mentioned on Tumblr that it's actually a weapon he is infusing his energy into. I had totally forgotten about that.

Yes! I was so relieved that while they didn't try to do his child form they also didn't deprive him of the weapon. :)

I was surprised to see this recommended on Netflix, I hadn't realized they'd done it! Glad to hear it was done well . . . seems like maybe live action anime aren't as cursed to mediocrity as they have been in the past?

They released the teaser and the trailer very recently. Before that, I was vaguely aware of it, without a time frame.

As soon as I read your entry I RAN to watch it and omgg it hit right in my feels! Now I'm watching the anime all over again LOL. I loved the adaptation! I really hope we get more episodes!
