The Black Queen by Jumata Emill was excellent. Nova, the first Black homecoming queen at her high school, gets murdered. Duchess, her best friend, and Tinsley, her rival suspected of her murder, investigate.

This is a great murder mystery that never hesitates to deal with racism. Perfect for fans of Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé!

Duchess has a girlfriend, but it's not a big focus of the story.
