La Frugalité du temps by Sylvie Bérard was fascinating. Annick, a physics teacher with a passion for genealogy, starts going to Arborithme, a company that lets her meet her ancestors through virtual reality... or is it actually time travel?

First of all, let me specify that you won't find any action here, it's closer to a literary novel than a genre one. There are many scenes of historical daily life, illustrated with old pictures from the author's own archives, as well as some scenes in the present.

The book is written in French, with some lines in untranslated English (which is a pity because I know some people who might have been interested, but they don't speak English), as the story takes place in Québec. Annick focuses on her Black and Indigenous ancestors, and on their invisibilisation due to systemic racism.

Annick is about 50 years old. She has a girlfriend, who has another girlfriend. I like that there's more polyamory in V in books these days, for all that I also enjoy OT3s. She uses écriture inclusive (neutral-gender language) on her genealogy blog and often dresses as a man in her travels to facilitate the exchange of information.
