The Spirealm
The BL c-drama The Spirealm was a lot of fun! Ling Jiushi has to enter the 12 doors of the Spirealm game. Every time, he has to find the key and the exit door in order to go back to the real world.
This is a supernatural adventure in the same vein as The Lost Tomb/DMBJ. Of course, in the adaptation, it's more or less presented as sci-fi because Chinese censorship doesn't allow magic in shows taking place in the modern era, but the VR technology added to the plot is quickly abandoned and the characters just go through normal doors.
Ruan Lanzhu takes an interest in Ling Jiushi from the start, but when it comes to Ling Jiushi's feelings for Ruan Lanzhu, it's a delicious slow-burn that ends up shining very bright. <3
It's a happy ending, but not the way I expected it, and I didn't like the way I interpreted it. Here's a much better interpretation of the TV finale based on the novel finale, viatrobadora. Now it makes sense that I got The Matrix vibes on several occasions.
