The Residence

Netflix's mini-series The Residence was absolutely amazing! It's a zany murder mystery taking place at the White House during and after the Australian State Dinner.

It's produced by Shondaland (Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Bridgerton). Most of the main characters are Black, including Detective Cordelia Cupp, a Benoit Blanc-like consultant played by Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes in Orange Is the New Black). There's also an FBI agent played by Korean American actor Randall Park.

In terms of LGBT representation, you get the President of the United States and his husband. They have minor roles, but it's still a very significant choice.

Absolutely a significant choice, particularly given the times we're living through. ♥

Hmmm plot & production company are not my favorites (all those shows are a bit Much for me; probably bc now I am Old and Uncool lol), but Park is a great actor (I first saw him in that weird IKEA soap opera he did?? & then in Veep, so just putting it out there that I knew he was good before everyone else! :-) ), as is Aduba (who I do just know from OITNB like a normal person) so... I'm intrigued.

I binged it last weekend. Loved it. All the cast did an excellent job, but special kudos to Uzo Aduba (I still want a copy of her outfit), Randall Park, and Isaiah Whitlock Jr (Clay Davis in The Wire). There was a lovely moment when I suspected Aduba and Whitlock had been corpsing as they tried to film a scene because of this slight sparkle about how they looked at each other, as if the production had just gone with the most serious take available.

Some poignancy added in retrospect with the knowledge that Giancarlo Esposito was replacing the late Andre Braugher.

I've heard a lot of good things about that show, I'll definitely have to check it out.

You're not the first person to recommend this show, so I am definitely putting it on my list of things to watch. It looks highly entertaining, if nothing else, and I do love good representation in my TV.

I thought it was a great choice to have a POTUS married to a man. The first time I've seen Barrett Foa outside of the NCIS franchise.
